Google has almost single-handedly created a tremendous opportunity for thousands of small businesses and individuals who wish to create and monetize SEO optimized web content. Before Google's innovations, it was virtually impossible for a small online publisher to sell advertising, since it had to be done directly. Now, Google serves the ads up on your site, and all you have to do is add the search engine optimized content.
But just because it's easy to create a web site and put ads on it, doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be easy to make money from it. There's a lot more to creating SEO optimized content than just typing text and repeating search phrases over and over again. To be sure, that is one element, and as you will notice, the key phrase on this page, "SEO optimized", is repeated ten times, along with other variations which are mentioned once, such as "search engine optimized", "search engine optimized website", or "optimized for SEO".
The fact is, certain get-rich-quick ebooks and guides suggest that the actual quality of the text is less important than whether or not it has been SEO optimized. And granted, as a professional writer, if I were writing this page for publication in a magazine as opposed to writing it so that it places high on Google's search ranking, I would not repeat the phrase "SEO optimized" so many times. Nonetheless, quality writing is essential. When somebody finds your SEO optimized web site and starts to read down the page, if it's obvious it was written by a non-professional, they will quickly move on to something else. Those are the facts. That's why the most successful web publishers don't try to do all their writing themselves. You may be very good at what you do, but if you're not a talented writer, you'll get nowhere.
There is a school of thought out there that web publishers seeking SEO optimized web content should go to services such as eLance and offer SEO copywriting jobs at lowball prices. I've seen job offers on eLance myself from publishers seeking SEO services at five dollars a page, and even as low as a dollar a page. You will of course, get bids even at this rate. But one thing you will also notice, is that there are many, many entries on eLance from publishers seeking skilled writers to re-write articles that have already been written. Why are there so many entries from publishers seeking re-writing of their SEO optimized content? Because when you pay only a few dollars a page, you get low quality content that is completely unusable.
